Kitty purrs for Millar
IF EVER there was a pacer which simply preferred one human over others, Pet Kitty would be it.
A well-travelled mare, Pet Kitty has had eight trainers - and 10 stable changes - throughout her 121-start career for 18 wins and 21 placings.
Of those outings, 14 have been for Carson Millar for nine wins and four placings.
That's a winning strike rate of 14.8 per cent split between the other trainers and 64.3 per cent for Millar!
Pet Kitty's first stint with Millar netted six wins - including five in a row - three placings and a fourth from 10 starts before being sold to Queensland interests.
"She was in great form when I had her last season, and knowing she was getting up in mark, I decided to move her on," Millar said. "She could have won a few more here, but I was trying to leave some meat on the bone for the new owners, making her a more attractive purchase.
"She was going quite well for her first dozen starts, with a few wins and a couple of placings, then her form tapered off.
"The owners I sold her to called me and asked if I would train her for them, so back she came."
Since returning to Millar's care Pet Kitty has regained her best form, winning three of her four starts, including Geelong last night.
With Jordan Leedham in the cart, Pet Kitty led throughout from barrier four to account for Emily Vincent and Telemachus in 1:54.2 over a mile.
"As soon as she got back I did what I did with her last time and put her in a paddock for a month," Millar said. "After that, I worked her the same as before and she has come along really well.
"I couldn't be happier with the way she is going, especially for her owners."
Pet Kitty's triumph was the second leg of a double for Millar, who prepared Test Of Fire score earlier on the cards.
Also in top form, with three wins and a pair of seconds from six starts for Millar, Test Of Fire covered the mile in 1:55.1 as Blackindeed and Lambro Mach filled the minors.
