Ladyship winner ready for futurity heats
KEPT fresh since her Ladyship Stake triumph a fortnight ago, promising youngster Kittykat Cutie is primed for tonight's Southern Cross heat at Globe Derby.
Winner of her last two starts - with her record including a pair of thirds from five outings - Kittykat Cutie is engaged in the first qualifier for two-year-old fillies.
Co-trained by popular horsewomen Jill Neilson and Katie Wilson, the daughter of Stay Hungry has drawn to complete a hat-trick from barrier four.
"We're very happy with her going into this," Neilson said. "Things get serious tonight as we aim for a spot in next week's Final, but we're confident with her.
"She's drawn well enough to settle in a good position and will be right in the finish."
To be driven by the newly-married Wayne Hill, Kittykat Cutie is a $2.20 favourite in early markets, with Torque Intheusa considered the main danger at $3.
Prepared by Ryan Hryhorec, Torque Intheusa will come from gate six.
Neilson and Wilson also have Stay Angry drawn barrier seven in the second heat.
Another daughter of Stay Hungry, the pacer is on the third line of betting at $8, with Brighton a prohibitive $1.20 favourite from five.
Machete Roulette splits the pair at $6 from gate three.
Although prepared by premier Victorian horsewoman Emma Stewart, Brighton was bred and is owned by former Harness Racing SA chairman, Mark Carey.
"Stay Hungry is coming along nicely, but this will be a test for her as she has drawn the widest of the field," Neilson said. "Hopefully she can progress to the Final and then we can look for a better draw in that."
