Larry creates Australasian history
SUPERSTAR pacer Leap To Fame created history with his exciting triumph at Albion Park just moments ago.
By turning the Inter Dominion Final into a one-act affair, Leap To Fame, affectionately-known as Larry, has become Australasia's richest standardbred.
Sitting fourth on the rich list before the $1million decider, Leap To Fame has been catapulted to the top with earnings of $4,630,884 as a result of 56 wins, nine seconds and two thirds from 66 starts.
Leap To Fame's victories include 12 Group Ones and the $1milion slot race in New Zealand on April 4
Blacks A Fake - the only pacer to win four Inter Dominions - held the record for more than a decade with a bankroll of $4,575,438 thanks to his 72 wins and 24 placings from 105 starts.
Im Themightyquinn and Lazarus round out the top four with figures of $4,567,456 and $4,125,988.
Lazarus reached the $4million mark in just 51 starts.
"His record suggests he deserves to be considered among the all-time greats and now he is the richest," trainer Grant Dixon said. "He is certainly a horse of a lifetime and we are very lucky to be involved with him."
With Dixon in the cart, Leap To Fame was beaten for speed from the pole, but was quickly angled away from the pegs and into the running line as Speak The Truth worked to the front from barrier three.
Eased forward, Leap To Fame claimed the lead after travelling 700 metres, with the remainder of the 3157-metre trip becoming a procession.
Never seriously challenged, the son of Bettors Delight completed a seven-and-a-half metre win from Speak The Truth, with Cya Art a metre-and-a-half away third.
Rating 1:57.7, Leap To Fame also became just the third pacer to reclaim the Inter Dominion title, having won the 2023 Championship before missing last season's edition.
Captain Sandy was the first with wins in 1950 and '53, before Blacks A Fake emulated the feat in 2010.
Blacks A Fake was successful in 2006, '07 and '08 before finishing second behind Mr Feelgood - beaten a half-neck - in 2009.
