Loco mare forgiven after birthday win!
ALL was forgiven after Bacardi Chic caused a minor upset in Ballarat last night.
Acting "completely loco" before the race, Bacardi Chic was on her best behaviour once in the midst of competition to score at $9.
"She was being difficult when I loaded her in the float, but then turned feral when we got to the track," trainer David Magri said.
"She's in season and was just completely loco, including knocking me over and flipping the sulky in the stalls.
"Given the way she was carrying on, I even considered scratching her for a moment.
"I'm glad I didn't as she went out to the track and went just as good as she ever has."
Adding to the moment is Bacardi Chic's victory doubled as an early birthday present for Magri, who turned 48 today.
"It was a nice little birthday surprise," Magri said.
With Magri in the cart, Bacardi Chic was caught wide from barrier seven before being eased forward to take the lead from Majestic Jewel.
"I originally hoped to slot in somewhere from seven, but once we were caught wide, I figured I'd go forward and have a crack for the front."
Shortening stride during the latter stages, Bacardi Chic staved off a challenge from Jahbella to score by a half-neck.
In a 'blanket finish', Quick Witted was a head away third.
Also bred and owned by Magri, the daughter of Bacardi Lindy rated 2:02.4 over 1710 metres.
"She was getting tired at the end and only just got there, but she got there which is all that counts," Magri said.
