EVEN his biggest fan isn't game enough to make a comparison, but thanks to tonight's victory The Locomotive is two-thirds of the way to matching one of his famous dam's achievements.

Proving too slick for his rivals in a Vicbred Super Series Final at Tabcorp Park Melton, The Locomotive registered his fourth Group One triumph from 12 starts.

The Locomotive has notched three top shelf wins at the venue as well as one at Club Menangle for a record of nine wins, a second and earnings of $198,298.

Despite the two-year-old's impressive tally, trainer and co-owner Wayne Potter baulked at comparing The Locomotive to his mother, La Coocaracha.

One of the greatest trotting mares produced in the southern hemisphere, La Coocaracha won six Group Ones from 36 starts on both sides of the Tasman during the early 2000s .

As a broodmare La Coocaracha boasts 10 winners from 11 starters, including three Group One winners and a Group Two winner.

La Coocaracha's most successful foal – Dance Craze – has a record of 24 wins and 15 placings from 50 starts for more than $550,000 in prizemoney.

Dance Craze's victories include three Group Ones - the 2017 Breeders' Crown Three-Year-Old Trotting Fillies' Final, 2019 Great Southern Star and 2020 Australian Trotting Grand Prix.

"I wouldn't go anywhere near saying he can be as good as La Coocaracha," Potter said. "She was something extra special.

"I'll be happy if he can turn out to be as good as his half-sister Dance Craze.

"He's done a great job so far, but he's got a long way to go before he is up with those two.

"He has probably been lucky in that he has gotten into a year where he is a little better than the rest of them, but that said, he can only beat what they put in front of him."

Driven by Nathan Jack, The Locomotive overcame a second row draw to score by a metre-and-a-half from Watts Up Partytime.

Stevie Gee was three-and-a-half metres away third in 2:00.3 over 2240 metres.

"It was another top run from him," Potter said. "He's had a long season and that was his Grand Final.

"He'll have a couple of months off now as the Derby in New South Wales is not until May, so I will give a good break before I get him ready for that."
