IN-FORM pacer Major Meister is looking to begin the New Year in the same manner in which he ended the old one - winning a prestigious provincial cup.

Boasting three wins from his last five starts - including two for current trainer Jason Grimson - Major Meister rounded out 2022 with a victory in Cranbourne's flagship event on December 17.

Major Meister's 'other' win among the three was for Adam Kelly, who had to cease training after being diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

Multiple Myeloma is an incurable form of cancer, which attacks the body's plasma cells, reducing its ability to produce healthy white cells in blood marrow.

It is estimated 2450 Australians are diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma each year.

As for Major Meister, he is set to contest Saturday night's $75,000 Bendigo Cup.

Drawn barrier 11, the son of Art Major is a $3.30 second elect with TAB Fixed Odds.

Third in the Cranbourne Cup, Rock N Roll Doo is a $2 favourite to return to the winners' circle from the pole.

"He had a few days off after Cranbourne and is feeling a treat," Grimson said. "His work has been fantastic and he is ready to run another big race.

"The draw will make it difficult against a strong field and interesting to see how he goes from behind given he has won his two starts for me by leading.

"He works off the speed as good as anything, so I expect him to be running strongly if that's the way the race is run."
