Make sure my wife gets the credit!
STUART ROTHACKER

ON PAPER veteran horseman Stuart Rothacker broke a long drought from the winners' circle thanks to Alabama May's success in Bendigo last night.

Having her third run from a six-month break, Alabama May provided Rothacker with his first victory since Tiber scored in Maryborough in January 2020.

Unofficially, Alabama May's moment in the spotlight is thanks to Rothacker's wife, Janice.

"It's been a long time between drinks, that's for sure," Rothacker said. "A little over five years since my last winner.

"Janice does all the work with this one though and gets the love.

"Make sure you mention the credit belongs to Janice or I will be shot tomorrow!"

Driven by Rothacker, Alabama May enjoyed the run of the race behind the leader, Jetaway Saint, before cruising to a 12-metre win from the front runner, with Waikare Adrienna a head away third.

Breaking her maiden at her 15th start, Alabama May rated 2:04 over 2150 metres.

"We were quite confident with her as her last two runs this time in were really good," Rothacker said. "She was second when first-up for six months and runner-up again at her following start.

"We only breed our own, so it is very pleasing to see them win."
