Monthly award for 91-year-old horseman

VETERAN horseman Franklin ‘Bud’ Meier continues to prove age is just a number.

Enjoying a stellar stint with his stock, Meier was announced the Buffalo Raceway Horseman of the Month for March.

Stating he enjoys “staying active”, Meier is 91!

A passionate harness racing participant for more than 50 years, Meier is the owner or part-owner of Buffalo Raceway winners Call My Broker, Loaded Deck, Daylon Phantom and former New Zealander, In Runaway Bay.

Despite his age, Meier can be seen daily helping his trainer Angelo Nappo.

“I do whatever I can in the barn, whether washing or towelling off a horse or cleaning up a stall. I like to stay active,” Meier said,

Meier, a retired Erie County Sheriff Deputy, jokingly pointed out that although he can’t move as quickly as he used to, he’s always first into the winner’s circle to get his picture taken after a win!
