PRESIDENT of Harness Breeders' Victoria and the former studmaster at Alabar Bloodstock, John Coffey has been a key figure in the breeding industry for more than four decades.

Coffey has also served as President of the Australian Standardbred Breeders' Association and a committeeman of the Western Australian Standardbred Breeders' Association, the bloodstock consultant at Llowalong Farms and now sales consultant for Australian Pacing Gold.

Coffey has bred hundreds of winners throughout the years.

Shattering Class, a prolific cups winner of $810,000, the Australian Two-Year-Old Filly of the Year Nostra Villa, the top WA juveniles Mister Jadore and Lady Jadore, Tommy Be Good and Nomore Forusir are just a few of the smart performers brought out by Coffey’s Patrician Park.

Patrician Park will be represented by a colt and a filly at the Australian Pacing Gold yearling sale at Oaklands Junction on Sunday, February 2.

Lot 11 is a bay colt by the former Australian Three-Year-Old Colt of the Year Poster Boy, which was the leading first season sire last in 2024 with 23 winners and $600,000 in stakes.

He’s from Group Three WA winner I Am Special (1:57.4), a Live Or Die mare whose first five foals are all winners including the WA Country Oaks winner Dior Mia More (1:53.2), the Western Crown Classic winner Imahero and the Group One placegetter Adore Me Some More.

Her sixth foal, the three-year-old Hykeepmeposted – a brother to Lot 11 – finished an unlucky third at his debut at Maryborough recently.

“He’s a powerfully built colt with a liberal splash of white,” Coffey said.

Patrician Park’s other entry is Lot 48, a bay filly by last year’s second leading first crop colonial-bred sire Soho Tribeca, a $1million winning son of American Ideal.

She’s from Simply Suri, an unraced Christian Cullen daughter of Coburg (1:56.8), a Group One winner of $205,176 and one of the best mares of her era in New Zealand.

At the stud Coburg produced five winners including Ohoka Chopper (1:49.4) and Veste (1:57.1), a sister to Simply Suri, which numbered among her successes the Group One NZ Caduceus Club Classic.

Coburg figures as the grand-dam of the NZ Sires’ Stakes three-year-old champion and Harness Million placegetter It’s All About Faith (1:49.6) and the Group winners Yorkshire (1:52.3) and Purest Silk (1:55).

This is the family of millionaire pacers Il Vicolo, Gotta Go Cullen and Stunin Cullen, the Bendigo Cup winner Code Bailey, Our Triple Play, Justasec (1:49.8) and more.

“She’s a very athletic filly. She’s the best foal her dam has produced so far,” Coffey stated.
