No need for concern
AFTER expressing his concern before the race, Ryan Hryhorec had no reason to worry at Globe Derby last Saturday night.
Hryhorec had five runners in The Pride Of Petite, including the favourite, Ebonys Avenger.
Although he was certain the daughter of Kvintet Avenger was the best mare in the field, Hryhorec was reserved about Ebonys Avenger's prospects given her 40-metre backmark.
"Ebony is clearly the best horse, but 40 metres is a fair ask," Hryhorec stated. "She is entitled to be the favourite, but that doesn't mean she will win."
Well, win and win impressively Ebonys Avenger did!
With Hryhorec in the cart, Ebonys Avenger began quickly to make light work of her handicap before being sent forward to test the leader, Our Spitfire, from the 'death seat'.
Bullocking to the front turning for home, Ebonys Avenger powered her way to a four-metre win from her stablemate Majestic Summer.
Janes Gem was seven metres away in 2:04.1 over 2230 metres.
"She began brilliantly and was part of the main field after a few hundred metres," Hryhorec said. "Once she was well-balanced in her stride I took her forward as I knew she had the strength to sit outside them.
"Up the straight she fought hard to the line and won well."
