Now for the Oaks
A SHORT break before being readied for her next Group assignment is the plan with quality filly Gunna Reload.
Successful in last night's $100,000 Bathurst Gold Bracelet, Gunna Reload has been aimed at the New South Wales Oaks by trainer Peter Rixon.
Heats of the Blue Riband are scheduled to be run at Club Menangle in early May, with the Group One decider programmed for May 10.
Gunna Reload was runner-up in last season's Group One New South Wales Breeders' Challenge, with her latest triumph coming at Group Two level.
"The Oaks is her next main aim," Rixon said. "After that, all being well, we'll head north for the Queensland Oaks.
"Then she has the Breeders' Challenge, in which she finished second last year, so it would be nice if she could go one better this time around."
As for her moment in the spotlight, Gunna Reload was settled two-back along the pegs from barrier 10 as Soho Americano led from the pole.
Brilliantly extradited from the inside by Will Rixon to be four-wide around the home turn, the daughter of Sweet Lou sprinted to a three-metre win from Peace Out, with Soho Americano a head away third.
"I am rapt with her as that was her main aim this time in," Rixon said. "I was a fraction worried watching from the stands as I thought she was travelling a bit too keenly.
"But once Will got her off the pegs she finished it off well.
"She'd won six out of her nine starts, including her heat, so I had confidence in her as I know she is a nice filly."
"In the end it all worked out nicely for her."
