Mach Dan with Newcastle Mile

SPEEDY Victorian pacer Mach Dan remains on target for a third Miracle Mile appearance.

Earning a berth in the past two editions of Australasia's ultimate speed test, Mach Dan made his way into the elite field by securing the Newcastle Mile.

While Leap To Fame was winning the provincial feature last night, Mach Dan raced closer to home, capturing the Geelong Rocket for trainer Emma Stewart.

Like Mach Dan in 2022 and '23, Leap To Fame has gained automatic entry into the Miracle Mile at Club Menangle on March 9.

As for Mach Dan, he will head to the world class venue to contest one of two qualifiers for the $1million Garrards-sponsored Grand Circuit event next weekend.

The son of Mach Three will race in either the Cordina Chicken Group or Allied Express Sprint, with the first two past the post assured of Miracle Mile starts.

Driven by Mark Pitt during his latest outing, Mach Dan led throughout to score by a neck from Catch A Wave, which was gallant after occupying the 'death seat'.

La Captain was three metres away third in 1:56.4 over a mile.

Fields for the Sprints are scheduled to be released at 4pm on Monday.
