On target to join select Inter Dominion fraternity
VICTORY in Geelong tonight has Honolua Bay on target to join a select fraternity of pacers.
Thanks to his Inter Dominion heat success Honolua Bay will head into next week's Final as the only contender to remain undefeated throughout the series.
The Emma Stewart-trained gelding scored by a neck in Ballarat during last weekend's opening round before registering a head win in Shepparton three nights later.
As for his latest triumph, Honolua Bay completed a two-and-a-half metre win from a fast-finishing Perfect Stride, with Zeuss Bromac a metre-and-a-half away third.
An equal $5 TAB Fixed Odds favourite with his stablemates Act Now and Mach Dan, Honolua Bay is aiming to become just the 12th pacer to win three heats and the Final.
Logan Derby set the standard during the inaugural edition in 1936 by winning his heats and the decider, only to miss the title as Inter Dominion champion on points.
That mantle was bestowed upon Evicus even though the mare never graced the winners' circle during the series.
Despite the honour roll listing Evicus as the Inter Dominion champion for more than seven decades, administrators decided to change history in recent years, with the honour roll altered to note Logan Derby as the winner!
There are no such doubt about James Scott's credentials after he dominated the four nights in 1962.
Chamfer Star followed suit in 1966, with Stella Frost (1971), Hondo Grattan (1973), Young Quinn (1975), Preux Chevalier (1985), Village Kid (1986), Elsu (2005), Im Themightyquinn (2012) and Ultimate Sniper in 2019 rounding out 'the undefeated'.
For the record, Honolua Bay's rated 1:58.5 over 2570 metres with David Moran in the cart.
