WITH his star pacer in a far-from-common position, popular horseman Scott Ewen hopes the scenario can change in coming weeks.

Thanks to his success in last night's Ballarat Cup, Bulletproof Boy took his earnings to $704,541 - the result of 46 wins and 44 placings from 204 starts.

What sets Bulletproof Boy aside from most pacers and trotters with such an impressive bankroll is he has never won a Group One!

Former tough pacer Karloo Mick holds the exclusive distinction of being the only Australian standardbred to earn more than $1million without Group One glory.

Karloo Mick collected $1,493,155 in stakes thanks to his 64 wins and 59 placings from 159 outings.

The son of Panorama was runner-up in eight Group Ones, including the Inter Dominion, Miracle Mile, A G Hunter Cup and Chariots Of Fire.

Karloo Mick was also third in an Inter Dominion and Miracle Mile.

"He has been a champion to us, but there is one thing missing from his CV that I would like to see changed," Ewen said. "He hasn't won at Group One level and it would be amazing if he could do that.

"I'm certainly not complaining, and last night was his fourth Group Two, but it would be great for him to be a Group One winner before his career is over."

Bulletproof Boy will get his chance to add the elusive victory to his name when he contests the A G Hunter Cup in Melton on February 2.

"It's going to be a lot harder in the Hunter Cup, but it wouldn't be the race it is if it wasn't harder," Ewen said. "He's going to need a good draw and plenty of luck on the night."

As for his latest performance, the 10-year-old led throughout from barrier three to account for Hector and Perfect Class.

Driven by James Herbertson, Bulletproof Boy rated 1:55.5 over the 2710-metre journey.
