QUEENSLAND sensation Leap To Fame will have to match the feat of some of the sport's all-time greats to capture Saturday night's Victoria Cup.

A tight $1.20 TAB Fixed Odds favourite ahead of the Melton-based feature, Leap To Fame is attempting to win both of the state's Grand Circuit events in the same season.

The Grant Dixon-trained stallion completed the first part of the equation when he secured the time-honoured A G Hunter Cup last February.

Only four pacers have managed to win the pair of Group Ones in one season, with Koala King establishing the benchmark at Moonee Valley in 1980/81.

The immortal Popular Alm followed suit in 1982/83, with Preux Chevalier emulating the duo in '84/85.

It took until 2019 for Tiger Tara to become the fourth - and first to do so in Melton - for colourful horseman Kevin Pizzuto.

As for Leap To Fame, his prospects were boosted by a favourable draw, with the son of Bettors Delight to begin from barrier four.

Rapt with the five-year-old's performance to win last week's Smoken Up Sprint, Dixon is highly-confident Leap To Fame can add another top shelf event to his name.

"The draw looks perfect on paper, but anything can happen in that first 100 metres," Dixon said. "He'll come out under his own steam, and as long as I can find a spot in the one-wide line early, I'll be happy."
