IF THERE was an omen bet to be had this weekend, it has to be at Globe Derby on Saturday night.

Racing in solid form, Trailblazer will fittingly contest the Vale Sandra Hutchinson Pace for trainer Ryan Hryhorec.

Passing away last week, Hutchinson was a trailblazer within the South Australian industry, becoming the first woman to compete in races against men.

It was far from smooth sailing from Hutchinson, who was met with plenty of resistance before being given the 'all-clear'.

With her request denied by the racing board, Hutchinson took her case to the Equal Opportunity Board, which ruled in her favour.

Proving herself a capable driver, Hutchinson enjoyed success at SA's two metropolitan venues - Wayville and Globe Derby - as well as various provincial tracks.

As for Trailblazer, he has drawn to search for the lead from barrier two.

"He has come along nicely this time in...surprised me a little even," Hryhorec said. "He has always been an overgrown type, which has just needed time.

"I'm happy with his draw and expect him to be hard to beat over 2230 metres."
