Perfect season at risk
BOASTING an undefeated campaign, promising pacer Captain Perfect faces a tough task in keeping his winning streak going this weekend.
Winner of his last five starts, Captain Perfect is unbeaten from four outings this season for premier trainer Emma Stewart.
Each of the well-bred four-year-old's victories have been at Globe Derby for a combined margin of 95.8 metres.
This time around, however, Captain Perfect will compete in Melton on Saturday night in what represents a step up in grade.
Making matters worse for the son of Captaintreacherous, he has drawn wide on the second row in his first racing appearance in 10 weeks.
"He had a perfect campaign in Adelaide," Stewart said. "We felt it was the ideal stepping stone for him to return and it worked out great
"He is largely-owned in South Australia, so they got to see him race, which was also part of the plan.
"Saturday night will be a step up in grade for him, plus the draw hasn't helped.
"That said, he feels terrific and is ready to run a big race."
To come from barrier 12, Captain Perfect is listed as the $2.50 second favourite behind his stablemate Storms Collide at $2.30 from gate seven.
Storms Collide has been kept fresh since his tough win at the same venue on June 28.
"The draw hasn't been good to him either, but he is also feeling great and ready to go," Stewart said.
