Perfect Tasmanian raid

Perfect Tasmanian raid
Kingman

FRESH from one successful feature campaign, stablemates Kingman and Waterfront will embark on another later in the week.

In what was a perfect trip across Bass Strait, the Emma Stewart-trained duo captured the Tasmania Derby and Oaks last Saturday night.

Kingman's triumph provided Stewart with her third Derby in three weeks following from her wins in Victoria and South Australia's Blue Ribands.

It also gave Stewart consecutive Tassie Derbys, having won last season's edition with Celebrity Royal.

Remarkably, Stewart has secured 15 state Derbys during the past decade, with her haul breaking down to three in New South Wales, one in Queensland, four in Victoria, four in South Australia and three in Tasmania.

During the same period Stewart has collected nine state Oaks!

"We always have large numbers of young horses, so races like the Derbys and Oaks are the focus," Stewart said. "To enjoy the success we have in those races is amazing and particularly satisfying for our owners."

Maintaining her perfect record from nine starts for Stewart, Waterfront led throughout for a soft eight-metre win from Shes A Tiny Dancer.

Free To Play, a stablemate of the winner, was five-and-a-half metres away third in 2:01.9 over 2090 metres.

Kingman also found the lead on his way to a 1:57.5 win over 2579 metres as Collective Works and Our Luciano filled the placings.

As for their pending assignments, Kingman and Waterfront have been nominated for Friday night's Breeders' Crown heats in Melton, with fields due to be released this afternoon.
