PLANS remain uncertain with promising youngster Byrneside Boom despite his success at Tabcorp Park Melton during the weekend.

Fourth upon debut after breaking stride at the start, the Damian Wilson-trained freshman was on his best behaviour to capture the $40,000 Australian Pacing Gold Consolation.

With several key options available for Byrneside Boom this season, Wilson revealed it is yet to be decided which features the two-year-old will contest.

"He's not a natural two-year-old and gives the impression he will make a very nice three-year-old," Wilson said. "Whatever he does this season is a bonus really.

"He is eligible for some of the bigger series throughout the year, but what he does or doesn't go in hasn't really been decided.

"To be honest, I haven't even looked past the APG series, so I don't have a plan for him at this stage."

With Wilson in the cart, Byrneside Boom was eased to the tail of the field from the outside of the front row as Carramar Olam led from barrier two.

Taken three-wide without cover along the back straight, the son of Sportswriter sustained a strong sprint to score by a metre-and-a-half from Kwick Sand.

Carramar Olam battled on to be three-and-a-half metres away third in 1:58.6 over 1720 metres.

"That was a top run from him," Wilson said. "He's done all the work out wide on his own and still hit the line hard.

"He's still pretty green, but when he does gain more experience and mature a bit, I can't see any reason why he won't keep getting better."
