CAPTAIN PERFECT lap

BRAGGING rights for last Saturday night's St Leger at Globe Derby were split between two states.

Although trained in Victoria by record-breaking horsewoman Emma Stewart, Captain Perfect is predominantly owned by South Australian interests and was driven by local star, Wayne Hill.

"It was a perfect result all round," Stewart said. "He was first-up from a break and we felt this race was an ideal starting point for his campaign.

"We always enjoy having a runner at Globe Derby, particularly when that runner has owners over there who can be at the track to watch them go around."

Beginning quickly from barrier three, Captain Perfect worked forward to find the lead as early pacemaker, Oakhay, was eased to take a trail.

Never seriously challenged, the son of Captaintreacherous cruised to a 22-metre win from Splash Of Paynt, with Machete Roulette was two metres away third.

"He did it as easily as he pleased," Stewart said. "Although he hadn't raced since December, his work had been strong and we had him pretty well wound up.

"That said, he will still benefit from the run."

Rating 1:55.7 over 1800 metres, Captain Perfect took his record to two wins and two seconds from six starts for earnings of $24,597.
