PREMIER reinswoman Amanda Turnbull will require more surgery while facing a lengthy stint on the sidelines following an horrific training accident.

Campaigning a team in Queensland, the New South Wales horsewoman was catapulted from the sulky after a horse took fright and bolted earlier this week.

Rushed to hospital, Turnbull was found to have severed tendons in her right hand, fractured multiple vertebrae, broken four ribs and damaged a disc.

Having already undergone surgery, Turnbull will require more operations in coming weeks.

“She was operated on a couple of days ago where she had two operations," Turnbull's father, Steve, said. "There is a bone specialist and a skin graft surgeon coming to see her next week as well.

“My wife Jenny is staying up there with her and I’m flying up today with Isobel (Ross) so she can drive Amanda’s runners at Albion Park.

"We'd like to thank everyone who has called to check on Amanda and offer well wishes...it's nice to know how many people care.

"It's going to be a long recovery, but Amanda will be back as good as ever."
