Prominent couple moving interstate
PROMINENT couple Alyce and Jayson Finnis have made "a massive decision" in a bid to secure their future.
Planning to get "serious" about their racing operation, the Finnis' have sold their Mount Gambier property and are moving to Queensland.
Along with their three children - Judd, Sadie and Tilly - and a team of 10 horses, the Finnis' will head to their new home in Lowood at the end of October.
Lowood is located in the Somerset Region, west of Brisbane and a short trip north of Ipswich.
"It is something we have talked about for a while and have decided the time is right," Jayson said. "It was a massive decision to make, but we felt it was best for the future.
"If we want to be a bit more serious about training we had to move somewhere and Queensland felt like the best fit.
"We're nervous and excited at the same time."
Jayson will begin the relocation next week by taking the first load of stock north and picking up the keys to the new property.
Jayson is set to make numerous road trips during the next two months, before he and his family officially say good-bye to South Australia.
"I'll head to Queensland with a few things and a mare next week and pick up the keys at the same time," Jayson said. "The kids will finish this term at school, then we'll get there and settle in.
"By the end of the year we will have 10 horses in the stable, which we're taking up with us.
"We've got a few things on the property to get ready and they'll get done during the next couple of months so we can hit the ground running.
"Racing-wise, we will be about an hour from Albion Park, while at the moment we're five hours to Globe Derby, so the shorter trip to the main track will be nice."
One Finnis family member - Tilly Jayne - is already in the Sunshine State and will make her local debut at Albion Park tomorrow.
In the care of Matt Elkins, Tilly Jayne has drawn barrier nine over 1660 metres.
"We gave her a spell after her fourth in the Southern Cross Final last November and then decided to send her to Matt," Jayson said. "She did well during her time off and Matt is happy with the way she has come up.
"It won't be easy first-up from that draw over the short trip, but she will benefit from the run."
