Promising filly rounds out perfect cameo
ROUNDING out a perfect racing cameo last night, promising filly Ripples will be given a freshen up before embarking on her next feature target.
Making her debut in a Bathurst Gold Tiara heat a fortnight ago, Ripples completed a clean sweep of the series by capturing the $150,000 Final in strong fashion.
Impressed with the daughter of Bettors Delight, trainer Emma Stewart stated Ripples will enjoy a short break before being wound up again.
"She's had two trials and two races in four weeks, so she's done a terrific job," Stewart said. "There is a lot to like about her, so she'll be given plenty of time.
"She'll have an easy time of it now before we look at her next target."
Driven by ace reinsman Luke McCarthy, Ripples was caught three-wide from barrier eight before being sent forward to work outside the leader, Discernment.
Forging her way to the front at the top of the home straight, the three-year-old dug deep to score by a metre-and-a-half from Sparkling Sea.
Discernment battled on to be five metres away third as the winner rated 1:53.9 over 1730 metres.
"It was a tough run," Stewart said. "She had to work from the outset and still showed plenty of fight up the straight.
"We're very impressed with the way she has come along."
Bred and owned by Mick Harvey, Ripples is a half-sister and stablemate of Samkerr, which was runner-up in the Gold Bracelet Consolation the previous night.
