Zarski

UNDEFEATED freshman Zarski will be kept fresh ahead of his first major target.

Registering his second victory for trainer Gary Donaldson when too good in Melton last night, Zarski is being readied for the rich Vicbred Super Series.

Heats of the futurity are scheduled to be run in Maryborough on September 4, with the $100,000 Final set to be contested in Melton on September 14.

"I couldn't be happier with his progress," Donaldson said. "He hasn't stopped improving from day one and gives every indication there is more in him.

"At the moment his greatest asset is his manners. He is so well-gaited and steady in his action to the point he has never broken stride at any stage of trackwork or qualifying trials or at the races.

"I'm working towards the Vicbred in a few weeks, so hopefully he continues to trot safely as we go along...I can't imagine any reason why he won't.

"After that he will have a freshen-up before we have a go at the Breeders' Crown in November.

"At this stage I plan on missing the Redwood in October just to keep him fresh and limit him to mobile starts for the time being."

With Donaldson in the cart, Zarski was eased towards the tail of the field from barrier six before gaining a three-wide trail along the back straight.

Sustaining a strong sprint, the son of Father Patrick grabbed the lead close to the post to score by a head from Vytis.

Sassy Galleon was two metres away third in 2:00.3 over 1720 metres.
