Promising youngster's perfect return
PROMISING youngster Captain Fearless completed a perfect racing return earlier this weekend.
Sent for a spell following his success at Globe Derby on January 4, Captain Fearless scored at the same venue on Monday.
Rapt with the three-year-old's performance, co-trainers Jill Neilson and Katie Wilson have set their sights on the Emerging Stars Series with the son of Captaintreacherous.
As such, Captain Fearless will return to Globe Derby for a heat next Monday in a bid to qualify for the $25,000 Final on June 28.
"It was great for his first start back," Neilson said. "He needed the run so we snuck him in on Monday to start his campaign.
"He will improve from that run and hopefully keep moving forward.
"There is a heat for the Emerging Stars next week, so we'll put him in that, and with a bit of luck, on to the Final.
"After that we will take it as it comes"
Driven by Wayne Hill, Captain Fearless was caught wide from barrier five before being settled two-back in the running line as Two In The Bin led from gate four.
Proving too good during the latter stages, Captain Fearless completed a four-and-a-half metre win from Atmosphere, with Two In The Bin 13 metres away third.
Rating 1:59.6 over 1800 metres, the colt provided Neilson and Wilson with the first leg of a training double as Bishop George scored later on the card.
With Hill's sister, Dani, in the cart, Bishop George led throughout in 2:02.7 over 2230 metres as Beware The Fury and Kabayo King filled the placings.
"When he is on song he is a nice horse, but when he's off, he has a terrible time of it," Neilson said. "He has had more health issues than I've had Sunday dinners.
"If it can go wrong with him, it will.
"That was a heat of the Emerging Stars for trotters, so it's on to the Final for him.
"Hopefully he can stay right enough to keep going for a while.
"I'm not sure how long he can hold up, but we will grab what we can while we can!"
