Proud father-and-son moment

Proud father-and-son moment

AS PLEASING as it was to win a Western Regional Championship last night, for trainer Nathan Turnbull the victory had a more heartfelt impact.

For example, Turnbull has enjoyed success at the highest level on more than one occasion, but his latest $100,000 feature triumph included his son, Jett.

Turnbull trained Glitter Aint Gold to score in Bathurst, with Jett driving the four-year-old to glory.

"I'm absolutely stoked," Turnbull said. "Rapt for his owners, happy to win a big race, but even more so that I shared it with Jett.

"It's one of those proud father-and-son moments you will always cherish."

Leading throughout from barrier four, Glitter Aint Gold treated his rivals with contempt as he cruised to an 18-metre win from Novanta Rising.

Rebounder, which trailed the leader, was a metre away third.

Unbeaten from two starts this season, Glitter Aint Gold rated 1:55.8 over 2260 metres.

"He only had one run, which was in the heat, going into the Final, but he was sharp as hell," Turnbull said. "You can never be too confident over the long trip, but he got the job done.

"He's in the State Final now at Menangle in 10 days, so we'll keep him poking along at home for that.

"It is a bit ambitious, but long term, The Rising Sun in Queensland would be something I'd like to have a go at with him."
