Ready to go one better
Paradise Valley

PRODUCING an eye-catching effort when runner-up in a Vicbred Super Series heat last week, Paradise Valley is expected to go on better in tomorrow night's semi-final in Melton.

Resuming from a seven-month spell, Paradise Valley was second behind $1.18 favourite Sweet Bella in 1:56 over 2240 metres.

Destined to "strip a lot fitter", the daughter of Sweet Lou is a $1.85 TAB Fixed Odds hot shot for trainer Allan McDonough.

"I was very happy with her run in the heats," McDonough said. "She hadn't raced since January and was ready to go, but race fitness is another thing altogether.

"Her work has lifted this week and she will strip a lot fitter for the semis."

To be driven by McDonough, Paradise Valley is expected to be pushed forward in search of the lead from barrier five.

"She's drawn a little wide, but is very quick out of the gate and I think she will be able to cross those inside her," McDonough said. "If she does find the front she will be very hard to run down.

"With this run also under her belt she will be in peak condition for the Final the following week."

Expected to have no trouble leading from gate two, Sweet Bella is a $1.28 TAB Fixed Odds favourite in the opening semi.

Prepared by premier horsewoman Emma Stewart, Sweet Bella is one of 39 Stewart-trained runners in the 12 semis for two, three and four-year-olds.
