Ready to upstage star sibling
WELL-BRED filly Mega Spur will attempt to upstage her older sibling this weekend.
Mega Spur is set to contest Saturday night's New South Wales Trotters' Oaks at Club Menangle - a venue Constantinople has dominated in recent weeks.
Proving himself to be the state's premier squaregaiter, Constantinople boasts five wins and a second from his last seven starts around the world class track.
Trained by champion horseman Luke McCarthy, Constantinople will also be in action on the card, with the son of Trixton drawn barrier nine against open class company.
Despite his wide starting position, Constantinople is a short-priced favourite.
Mega Spur on the other hand, is among the outsiders in the Blue Riband after drawing gate 10 for Victorian-based trainer Geoff Webster.
Bred and owned by the same connections as Constantinople, Mega Spur moves into nine once the emergencies are taken out of the equation.
"On paper it is a shocking draw, but it may work out in her favour," co-owner Jerry Glavas said. "All the main chances have drawn well, so if they happen to take each other on, it would work in her favour.
"She's a strong filly which will run out the 2300 metres well, so if there is a tempo on early, she will keep going at the business end.
"She showed how strong she can be at her last start against older horses when she was checked and broke at the start, was at least 50 metres from the leader and only finished 17 metres from the winner.
"We're not going there declaring her, but at the same time, we believe she is capable of winning if things go her way."
