Remiss not to revisit sensational haul
BEFORE we even begin discussing Jason Grimson's runner at Club Menangle today, it would be almost criminal not to revisit the horseman's achievement at the world class venue last Saturday night.
Grimson had runners in six of the seven races on the card and returned to his stable with five winners.
Along with a quinella in one event, Grimson's 'other' starter for the evening was runner-up in the sixth race.
It's the first time Grimson has prepared a quintet meeting.
It would also be negligent to overlook Rakero Rocket's victory to round out Grimson's haul.
With Cameron Hart holding the reins, Rakero Rocket burst to the lead from barrier eight to cover the first quarter in a breathtaking 25.4 seconds.
Allowed to run along at a quick tempo, the son of Rock N Roll Heaven covered the mile in a scintillating 1:47.3 seconds.
In what was his second start since joining Grimson's stable, Rakero Rocket became the all-time fastest pacing gelding in the southern hemisphere.
Have Faith In Me and Cya Art previously shared the record of 1:47.5.
Only My Field Marshal - a stallion - has gone quicker on this side of the equator with his 1:46.9 victory in the 2018 Miracle Mile at Club Menangle.
As for Grimson heading back to the track this afternoon, he will be represented by Oursurfinsafari, which has drawn to return to the winners' circle from barrier two.
Luckless last time around, Oursurfinsafari boasts three wins and two placings from her last six starts and is a short-priced favourite to score once again.
Another looking to get back into winning form is handy trotter Your Majesty in the opening race.
Winner of her last three outings for 2025, the Blake Fitzpatrick-trained mare has been second and third in her two starts for 2026.
