ASTUTE horseman Dean Girardi is riding the crest of a wave.

With his team in super form, Girardi has registered five wins, four placings and a fourth from his last 10 starts.

Two of those victories came at Globe Derby yesterday, which followed his success at the same venue a couple of nights earlier.

Working a team of 10, Girardi has three racing, giving him a perfect record of last start winners!

"I'm rapt with the way they are going," Girardi said. "I think it's a bit of right timing too as fields have dropped off a little and I'm just at the lucky end of it.

"If you keep at it, luck has come your way at some stage."

Handy mare Hayoak opened Girardi's double when she scored by seven-and-a-half metres from The Vicars Girl.

Star Of Patrick was a metre-and-a-half away third in 2:03.6 over 2230 metres.

Captain Barnato followed suit with an eye-catching performance in a York Peninsula Cup heat.

With Jason Kittel holding the reins, Captain Barnato rated 1:58.4 over 1800 metres as Hey Goyougoodthing and Buzz Bomb filled the placings.

"I was pretty confident with them and told both drivers to just keep driving forward," Girardi said. "Jason used his initiative when he couldn't get the lead and took hold, which in the end, won the race.

"We only recently bought Barnato and it's turned out to be a great decision."
