RISING star Double Lou issued an ominous warning to potential rivals at Club Menangle last Saturday night.

Having his third run from a three-month spell, Double Lou blitzed his opposition with a record-equalling final 400 metres.

With trainer Bailey McDonough in the cart, the son of Sweet Lou covered the last quarter in a breathtaking 25.3 seconds.

Leading throughout from barrier five, Double Lou stopped the clock at 1:51.7 for the mile to score by 12-and-a-half metres from Sinaloa, with Our Vincent Can Gogh a neck away third.

Double Lou scored first-up from his break on January 24 before finishing second on February 7.

"I honestly didn't think he would come close to running that sort of time with ease, so it was sort of scary, but exciting going forward," McDonough said.

"He was awesome...a different horse from last week, so it was good to see him do what I know he can do."

To be given an "easy week", Double Lou is being primed for the Chariots Of Fire around the 1400-metre circuit on March 7.

Qualifiers for Australasia's premier four-year-old event are scheduled to be conducted on February 21 and 28.

"He'll have an easy week," McDonough said. "Just tick him over."
