Scoundrel burglar steals 85-year-old trainer's gear
SOME dirty low scoundrel has left veteran trainer Donald Thomas "in the lurch".
Waking this morning to work his team, Thomas was shocked to discover his barn had been broken into.
On further inspection the 85-year-old South Australian horseman found the thief had stolen his entire gear inventory.
As such, Thomas had to scratch Sheseversoclever from the opening event at Globe Derby today.
Thomas' grandson, Declan Whelan, who was set to drive the mare, was understandably vocal in his opinion the perpetrator.
"I don't want to believe it, but it is the world we live in," Whelan said. "No one deserves this, but you certainly don't do anything like that to old people.
"Pop is pretty upset, we all are to be honest, but Nan is also very shaken knowing someone has broken into the property...doesn't help her feel safe.
"They've gotten their hands on as much as possible - jog and race gear, all gone!
"We've contacted the Police, but if anyone has any information it would be great."
