Servings of manure the key to good health!

THERE'S every chance you've told, or been told by, someone to "eat sh#t" at some point in time!

Traditionally used as an insult it never occurred the term could be a gesture for good health.

As it turns out, servings of the 'delicacy' can have its medicinal purposes as horseman David Lewis discovered.

With Lewis' pacer Kowalski Analysis becoming seriously ill, trainer Matthew Craven had to "load him up with antibiotics".

The downside is the medication had an adverse effect on Kowalski Analysis' stomach lining.

After trying traditional methods - such as probiotics and yoghurt - Lewis was advised by his veterinarian wife, Kristabel, to stomach tube the gelding with hydrated manure from a healthy stablemate.

"He got really sick after racing in Queensland in July 2021 and had nine months off," Lewis said. "Mattie had no choice but to load him up with antibiotics.

"The problem is it buggered his stomach which then stopped him from coming back at his best for a couple of starts before having more time off.

"My wife read about the manure treatment being done in America and suggested we give it a go.

"We got manure from a healthy horse, mixed it with warm water and stomach tubed him.

"Within a few days he showed dramatic improvement and has come along in leaps and bounds since."

A first-up second for Lewis last October, Kowalski Analysis has won his next three starts, including the Stawell Cup on December 11.

Completing the hat-trick in Bendigo last weekend, the son of Roll With Joe is in prime condition to collect his second Cup when he heads to Hamilton on Sunday.

To be driven by Glen Craven, Kowalski Analysis has drawn barrier six, but slots into five with the removal of the emergency.

"I couldn't be happier with the way he is going," Lewis said. "The draw has the potential to be tricky, but he has the gate speed to go forward if we decide to go that way.

"This is my local Cup, so I started aiming him at it six or seven weeks ago.

"It is a Cup I would like to win and think I have a decent shot this year."
