Shortest priced favourite in Group One's history

BOOM Victorian pacer Captain Ravishing has the potential to start as the shortest priced Chariots Of Fire runner in history.

With the Emma Stewart-trained speedster drawing the pole in Saturday night's Group One at Club Menangle, TAB Fixed Odds have installed the Australian Pacing Gold purchase a prohibitive $1.22 favourite.

Prior to Captain Ravishing's skinny odds another Victorian - Shakamaker - held the record, beginning at $1.28 in 2000.

Shakamaker left frustrated punters holding their tickets, however, when beaten by Lombo Rapida at Harold Park.

Four year's later Elsu was a $1.30 shot when triumphant for trainer Geoff Small.

Since the move to Menangle in 2010, Lazarus has been the shortest priced starter - and winner - when paying $1.40 in 2017.

As for Captain Ravishing, he heads into the $250,000 event on the strength of his arrogant success at Tabcorp Park Melton a fortnight ago.

First-up from an 11-week spell, Captain Ravishing rated 1:50.9 over 1720 metres to score by 22 metres from Heza Son Of Agun, which has drawn four in the Chariots Of Fire.

Opening at $11, yet another Australian Pacing Gold purchase - Catch A Wave - is the only other runner under double figures after being backed into $7 from barrier six.
