Star breaks drought with track record victory
Swayze

AS AMAZING as it sounds, star pacer Swayzee broke a 10-month drought from the winners' circle with his phenomenal Goulburn Cup triumph last night!

A combination of setbacks had limited Swayzee to just six starts, which netted four placings, since capturing the Renshaw Cup in Penrith last March.

As such, the Jason Grimson-trained gelding missed key majors such as the Inter Dominion and his New Zealand Cup defence.

Swayzee had a pair of outings after Penrith before being sidelined for four months only to make a cameo appearance in September.

The millionaire son of Rock N Roll Heaven had another start in October before returning again in mid-December.

In what was his third run back, Swayzee reminded onlookers just how powerful he is with a genuine staying effort in the $40,000 feature.

With Grimson in the cart, Swayzee was sent around the field from his second row draw to 'eyeball' the leader Don Hugo.

The pair broke clear of the pack along the back stretch before engaging in a thrilling battle up the home straight.

Proving too strong, Swayzee completed a four-metre win from Don Hugo, with Donegal Luther 36 metres away third.

Rating 1:53.6 over 2240 metres, the eight-year-old sliced four-tenths of a second from Bling It On's track record set in January 2020.
