Star siblings chasing more feature glory

SIBLINGS Derek and Tracy will search for more feature glory this weekend.

In fact, Tracy is attempting to match another of Derek's achievements on Saturday night.

Known on the track as Derek The Jet and Tracy The Jet, the duo are engaged in Melton's bumper program.

Undefeated from nine starts, Derek The Jet will contest the Australasian Trotting Championship in what shapes as a monumental first-up task for the Rusell Jack-trained gelding.

Derek hasn't raced since last October due to a collection of setbacks and "niggles", with Jack's reinsman-son, Nathan, well-aware of the mission ahead - especially from barrier nine!

"It's a tough way for him to return to racing, but I don't have any other options," Nathan said. "Under the handicapping system, this is the price he pays for being a good young horse.

"As good as I think he is, it's hard to see him winning a race like this first-up."

Derek's final win before his stint on the sidelines was the Group One Need For Speed Prince Final, with Tracy to tackle the Princess division for trainer Jess Tubbs.

Tracy has already matched Derek by winning a $125,000 Sales Final last month, with the latter successful in the 2024 edition.

To be driven by James Herbertson, Tracy is an extremely-short $1.04 TAB Fixed Odds favourite from barrier seven.

Keayang Kurki is the only other runner under double figures at $9.50 from gate eight.
