Star squaregaiters set to clash
TWO of the nation's most promising trotters are set to clash this weekend.
Both from fresh Group One wins, the duo will match strides over 2300 metres at Club Menangle on Saturday night.
With genuine claims of being the premier squaregaiter among their crop, The Locomotive and London To A Brick have met twice, with the former boasting a two-nil advantage.
"There is not a lot between them," The Locomotive's trainer Brad Hewitt said. "They've both done terrific jobs and would be the two best males of their crop.
"Let's not forget David Miles' mare Rockinwithattitude, when it comes to the top four-year-old as she has beaten them both."
To be driven by Hewitt, The Locomotive has fared better in barrier seven, with London To A Brick to come from gate nine for James Rattray.
The Locomotive hasn't raced since capturing a Vicbred Final in Melton on September 14 while under the guidance of astute horseman Wayne Potter, while London To A Brick was spelled following his Queensland Trotters' Cup success on July 27.
Each won a trial last week.
"We've drawn inside him and I'll be aiming to use that to my advantage," Hewitt said. "My bloke is quick out of the gate, so I'll be going forward in search of the lead.
"It'll be an interesting race and it will come down to which one is more forward in their preparation."
