TAB names Eureka representative
TAB has named Sure Thing Captain as its runner for the $2.1 million dollar TAB Eureka at Club Menangle next Saturday following the running of the Racenet Discovery Stakes.
TAB’s selection panel met directly after the race to determine the best candidate for the world’s richest harness event, with Sure Thing Captain’s eye-catching performance convincing them to lock-in the Shannon Price-trained four-year old.
Sure Thing Captain’s confirmation comes after early favourite, Frankie Ferocious was withdrawn, with TAB then choosing their new entrant on the same night as the emergency qualifiers for the TAB Eureka.
“It was a unique approach for TAB to decide on our runner this way, but it has certainly made for another outstanding night at Menangle with that little bit extra on the line,” said TAB’s Head of Racing Industry Partnerships, Brett Boyd.
“With our team meeting directly after the Racenet Discovery Stakes we were really hoping our runner essentially picked himself with their performance, and that’s what we’ve seen with Sure Thing Captain.
“While it was a hotly contested showdown as expected, we’re confident that Sure Thing Captain’s form stacks up and the performance can be replicated next week in the TAB Eureka, which is shaping as another huge night for the code.”
TAB has priced Sure Thing Captain as $5 equal second favourite to claim the TAB Eureka with Never Ending the firm $2.50 favourite and best backed with 20% of TAB outlays so far.
Don Hugo is next most supported with around 15% at $5, while Fighter Command and Major Delight are $8. The remainder of the field opens up to double figures outside of that.
Eureka TAB Odds: $2.50 Never Ending; $5 Don Hugo, Sure Thing Captain; $8 Fighter Command, Major Delight; $14 Eye Keep Smiling, High Above; $21+ Others quoted
