"The tests just couldn't find what was wrong!"
MULTIPLE cup winner Artillery will be back in action next week.
Racing without luck during his previous campaign, Artillery was sent for a much-needed spell following an unplaced performance in Port Pirie last April.
Responding well during his stint in a paddock, the son of Art Major will return at Globe Derby on Monday.
One of South Australia's top pacers in recent seasons, Artillery has captured features such as the Southern Cross Final as well as the Gawler, Victor Harbor, Italian and Christmas Cups.
The gelding also broke 1:50 at Club Menangle with his 1:49 triumph at the world class venue.
"He's been more than a handy horse from the moment he stepped on to the track," Cavallaro said. "I don't think there is any doubt he's done a good job...and he's not finished yet!
"Last time in we just couldn't get him right though!
"He had a blood disorder, which we just couldn't clear up. They now think he picked up a bug and it just stayed around, but the tests just couldn't find what was wrong.
"We did bloods every week and one week it would be ok, then the next it was terrible.
"Even though he ran some good races, he wasn't anywhere near his best.
"He seems very well at the moment...he looks good and is working fine, but he did that last time too, so we won't really know until he has a few runs
"We have done everything we can and he appears to have responded well, so now it's time to put him to the test."
To be driven by Cavallaro, Artillery is the sole runner drawn on the second line over 1800 metres.
"He will need the run, so it's not a bad draw as he won't have to do any work," Cavallaro said. "He'll take three or so runs to be as fit as we need him, so we'll just have to wait and see how he goes."
