Tiger ready to pounce

Tiger ready to pounce
KEVIN PIZZUTO

DESPITE his wide draw, handy pacer Tiger Prince is ready to pounce at Club Menangle tomorrow.

Runner-up at his last two starts - both in Penrith - Tiger Prince will begin from gate 10 over a mile for trainer Kevin Pizzuto.

Also bred and owned by the Inter Dominion winning horseman, Tiger Prince is listed among the favourites in what shapes as an "even field".

As the name suggests, the gelding is by Pizzuto's former champion pacer, Tiger Tara.

"Obviously, I would have preferred he drew better, but that's not the case," Pizzuto said. "Under the preferential draw conditions he was always going to draw poorly, so I knew that going into it.

"It's a pretty even field, but certainly one in which he can win.

"His last two starts have been good and he won two of his three starts before that, so he is in strong form and ready to run another big race."

Earlier on the card Pizzuto will be represented by another of Tiger Tara's progeny - Tiger Tee - and We Can Have It All.

Although pacing-bred, Tiger Tee is a trotter!

To be driven by Victorian reinsman Declan Murphy, Tiger Tee has a prime opportunity to break a 13-month drought from the pole.

The mare's stablemate, We Can Have It All, hasn't fared so well and will come from barrier nine.

"It's another fairly even field," Pizzuto said. "There is a bit of form in it, but it is a winnable race.

"Tiger Tee gets her chance from there, and if We Can Have It All can put her best hoof forward, she can give it a shake.

"We'll just have to wait and see how it all plays out."
