Tiger ready to roar
HANDY pacer Heza Tiger will attempt to celebrate the anniversary of one of his famous father's iconic victories by making his own way to the winners' circle this weekend.
Heza Tiger is by former Grand Circuit star Tiger Tara, which captured a host of the sport's biggest events, including the industry's 'Holy Grail' - the Inter Dominion.
Prepared by New South Wales horseman Kevin Pizzuto, Tiger Tara secured the 2018 edition at Tabcorp Park Melton.
While this season's Final is being conducted at Club Menangle tomorrow night, Heza Tiger will be in action at Globe Derby for trainer Tony Pullicino.
A last-start winner at the venue, Heza Tiger has drawn to complete consecutive wins from barrier two.
To be driven by Pullicino's mother, Gaita, the three-year-old is listed as a $3.20 favourite.
"I'm very happy with his form and expect him to be hard to beat again," Pullicino said. "He's a progressive type which has kept improving as his preparation has gone along and I can't see any reason for that to change.
"I reckon in six months he will be a genuine Saturday night horse here in South Australia.
"As for tomorrow night, he has the draw to make the most of it and that's what we'll be trying to do."
Pullicino will also be represented by another son of Tiger Tara - Tufftiger - in the following race.
With Gaita to take the reins again, Tufftiger will "need luck" from barrier five.
"He came from the same draw last time around and had no luck when well beaten," Pullicino said. "He ended up in the breeze on that occasion and the hard run took its toll.
"It probably won't be much easier this time and he will need luck to come away with the win."
