Time for well-earned break
A LONG break is the reward for promising freshman Zenario following his feature success at Globe Derby last Saturday night.
Making the trek across the border for the Southern Cross series, Zenario overcame a worrying start to his campaign to capture the Final for co-trainers Shaun and Jason McNaulty.
"Thrilled" with the two-year-old's tenacity, connections have decided to place Zenario "in a green paddock".
As such, Zenario will be sent to the Mount Gambier property of his owners, Danielle Helbers and Paul Arnup, to enjoy a restful summer.
"We are thrilled with him," Shaun said. "It all worked out well in the end, but was concerning at the start.
"He didn't settle in well before the heats and wouldn't eat properly for several days.
"We couldn't remain in Adelaide with him because of the harvest at home, so we left him with Lance Holberton who looked after him and got him back on his feed.
"Lance did a top job caring for him and we couldn't be more grateful.
"That will see him out for the season and he will spend two or three months in a paddock with his owners."
Driven by Michael Smith, Zenario dashed to the lead from barrier four before being eased to take a trail behind Splash Of Paynt.
Proving too slick along the sprint lane, the son of Sportswriter cruised to a three-and-a-half metre win from the pacemaker.
Art Regal, trained by Holberton, was 14-and-a-half metres away third in 1:56.2 over 1800 metres.
"Michael summed up the race perfectly and drove him a treat," Shaun said. "He ran to expectations and it was terrific to have a local big win for his owners.
"Unfortunately they had to breed Zenario's dam that afternoon, so they couldn't go to the track, but they watched it from the pub and are pretty happy."
