Top colt may bypass Vicbred Super Series
School Captain

NO DECISION has been made regarding School Captain's immediate future.

Although the Breeders' Crown winner is eligible for next month's Vicbred Super Series, trainer Russell Jack revealed connections are yet to decide if the two-year-old will tackle the futurity.

With majors such as the New South Wales Derby to be conducted early in the New Year, School Captain may bypass the Vicbred to enable the son of Captaintreacherous to have a long spell.

"I'll have to sit down with Bill and Anne (Anderson, owners) this week to discuss where we head with him," Jack said.

"There are races such as the Derby at Menangle and the Bathurst Chalice early next season and a break would do him good, so he may miss the Sires'.

"He can have a freshen up between now and the Sires' heats and another after the series, but there is also the option of giving him a long spell before the interstate races come along."

Driven by Jack's son, Nathan, during his latest victory, School Captain led throughout from barrier two for a six-and-a-half metre win from Perfect Class.

The Lost Storm was 16-and-a-half metres away third.

"We were very confident going into the race as we knew he would find the pegs and it'd take an enormous run to beat him," Jack said.

Rating 1:53.1 over 2240 metres, School Captain boasts two wins and three placings from five starts for earnings of $180,400.
