Track specialist back for more
CLASSY pacer Don Hugo is poised to return to Club Menangle on Saturday night.
Triumphant in the $1million Miracle Mile at the world class venue a fortnight ago, Don Hugo has developed into a specialist around the 1400-metre circuit.
During the past six months the Luke McCarthy-trained stallion has captured the $2.1million The Eureka, the Inter Dominion, Garrards-sponsored Miracle Mile and Cordina Chicken Sprint at Menangle.
"He thrives at Menangle," McCarthy said. "Not just the open track, but the style of racing there."
Despite facing a solid assembly of open class rivals this weekend, the 1609-metre event is a massive drop in class for the son of Art Major.
As such, TAB Fixed Odds have Don Hugo listed as a short-priced favourite despite being the widest drawn runner in the field of 10.
"He has come through the Miracle Mile in terrific order," McCarthy said. "I couldn't be happier with the way he is feeling.
"Drawing the car park is always a setback of sorts, but I can't see it being a problem."
