BAY OF BISCAY

IN WHAT can only be described as a tremendous training achievement, Emma Stewart has qualified the first three entrants into the famed Chariots Of Fire.

Two races offering a berth into the Group One have been conducted, with Stewart winning both!

Miki To Success captured the first - The Bonanza in Melton a fortnight ago - while Bay Of Biscay proved too good in the Hondo Grattan Stake at Club Menangle last night.

Adding to Stewart's moment is she prepared the quinella in the latter feature, with War Dan Buddy finishing second behind Bay Of Biscay.

As such, the trio will contest Australia's premier four-year-old event at the world class venue on March 1.

The record-breaking Victorian horsewoman is no stranger to Chariots Of Fire glory having captured the 2014 edition with Guaranteed and the 2019 running with Poster Boy.

"We are thrilled with the results," Stewart said. "To have three runners in such a big race is a terrific outcome for our owners.

"The Paleface Adios Stake is another qualifying race next week and we'll be having a crack at that as well."

Driven by Cameron Hart, Bay Of Biscay led throughout from the pole to score two-and-a-half metres from War Dan Buddy.

Major Hot and Better Knuckle Up, which finished third and fourth, also progressed to the Chariots Of Fire.

Covering the last half in 54.3 seconds, Bay Of Biscay stopped the clock in 1:49.8.

A magnificently bred son of Somebeachsomewhere from Nike Franco, the entire took his record to nine wins and eight placings from 20 starts for earnings of $685,330.

Desperate to break his Group One bridesmaid status, Bay Of Biscay has been runner-up in the New South Wales and Queensland Derbys as well as the $2.1million The Eureka.

"He has proven himself up with the best of his crop and certainly deserves to win a big one," Stewart said. "That could very well happen in a couple of weeks."
