Undefeated filly to join elite sorority
KEAYANG ZAHARA

ANOTHER perfect draw has unbeaten youngster Keayang Zahara in a strong position to join an elite sorority this weekend.

Winner of last week's New South Wales Trotters’ Oaks at Club Menangle, Keayang Zahara will return to the world class venue for Saturday night's Trotters’ Derby.

As such, the daughter of Volstead will attempt to become the fifth filly to complete the Blue Riband double since the Oaks was added to the calendar in 1999.

Jauriol in 2005, Right Interest in 2006, Habibti in 2013 and Rockinwithattitude last season are the only members of the ‘fairer sex’ to achieve the feat.

Just as she did in the Oaks, Keayang Zahara has drawn the pole in the Group One.

Keayang Zahara has won her three starts by an average of 15 metres, with trainer Marg Lee quietly confident the three-year-old can maintain her perfect record.

"This is clearly her biggest test," Lee said. "The draw should aid her in getting into a good position, but it's not an ideal draw either.

"She hasn't been driven out of the gate yet, with the main focus on having her settled, so we're not expecting her to lead.

"As long as she comes out well and is able to hold her own where she is close to the speed, she should be right in it.

"With the right run, I can't see any reason why she can't win."

Citing local aspirant Valtino as the one to beat, Lee is also wary of Queensland raider, Ajay Volstead and fellow Victorian, Val Thorens.

Val Thorens has fared best in barrier two, with Valtino to come from three and Ajay Volstead drawn gate five.

TAB Fixed Odds have Keayang Zahara listed as a $2.60 favourite, with Ajay Volstead on the second line of betting at $4.60.
