VALE – PETER PLUMMER

HARNESS racing lost one of its great servants with the sad passing of former Club Menangle Deputy Chairman and director, Peter Plummer, last Saturday (August 24).

Born on May 23, 1943, Peter was 81 years of age at his passing.

Peter Plummer was elected to the board of Club Menangle on October 24, 2006 and resigned on October 20, 2018.

During this period, he served the harness racing industry as:

• 12 years as a director, including four years on the Executive;
• two years as Deputy Chairman (2016 and 2017);
• two years as Executive Director (2014 and 2015);
• Represented the club as delegate to the Harness Racing Clubs Committee, including two terms as Chairman;
• Chaired numerous Club work groups;
• Former NSW Owners Association committee member;
• Former committee member and Vice President of the NSW Breeders Association.

A man dedicated for the bettering of this beloved harness racing industry, Peter Plummer had a great passion of breeding and owning the standardbred.

Mister Swinger was his pride and joy.

He bred and owned the star pacer, who took Peter and his family on a great ride.

A winner of 22 races and $445,107, Mister Swinger campaigned in Victoria with Geoff Webster and won the 2008 Nyah and Cranbourne Cups and the Winter Championship at Moonee Valley, the 2009 South Australian and then Ballarat Cups and his last win was in the 2011 Shepparton Gold Cup.

Mister Swinger was also a prolific Harold Park winner.

Peter Plummer’s funeral will take place next Tuesday, September 3 at 11am at St Pauls Catholic Church, 26 John Street, Camden.

Following the service, mourners can return to the Manor Function Room at Menangle Country Club, 170 Menangle Road, Menangle Park.
