Vallelonga chasing city Victory
CONFIDENT his runner is capable of winning, trainer Vince Vallelonga still believes luck will play an important role.
On his way to Melton as this is being written, Vallelonga will be represented by in-form pacer Always The Showman in the Hygain Victory Pace.
Boasting a win and two placings from his last four starts, Always The Showman has drawn the inside of the second row over 1720 metres.
That's the dilemma according to Vallelonga.
"It's a tricky draw," Vallelonga said. "I am a little concerned he will be pocketed on the inside, but then it is up to Ellen (Tormey, driver) to sort that out.
"There isn't much point going back over the short trip, so we'll be hoping to follow through.
"I've got no doubt it is a winnable race, and he is going well enough to give this a shake, but it just depends on what luck we have."
Primarily feeding his team Hygain Tracktorque, Vallelonga is relying on the feed company's sponsored name - Victory - to ring true for him!
"I haven't tried Victory in a feed sense, but am certainly hoping for it in a racing sense," Vallelonga joked.
HOOFNOTE: Hygain Victory is an oat free muesli created for the specific demands of racing. It combines micronized grains with prebiotics, probiotics and a natural pH balancer to help maintain digestive stability during race preparation. The high fat and controlled starch profile encourages the horse to draw more energy from fat, keeping starch available for the point in the race when it matters most. Bio available chromium supports efficient energy use by assisting in the reduction of lactic acid levels during exertion.
The balance of nutrients in Victory™ is tuned to the needs of the racehorse. Its targeted blend assists muscle development and recovery, supports tissues placed under daily strain and promotes bone and skeletal strength through the inclusion of Bonafide®. This creates a feed that suits racehorses in medium to heavy work and provides steady, readily available energy for the demands of the track.
