Veteran breaks winning drought
FRESH from his drought-breaking win during the weekend, Neds Beach will be looking to repeat the dose this afternoon.
Proving too good at Globe Derby on Saturday night, Neds Beach registered his first win since scoring in Ballarat last July.
The Reece Moore-trained son of Somebeachsomewhere had 25 starts between victories, where he figured among the placegetters on numerous occasions.
"It had been a while since he won, but he never really runs a bad race," Moore said. "With him it is just a matter of getting the right luck, which he got on Saturday night.
"He had the right barrier and was able to lead, which made the difference."
With Kaela Hryhorec in the cart, Neds Beach rated 2:01.3 over 1800 metres as Lil Miss Crocker and Trigger filled the placings.
Poised to back-up at the same venue, Ned Beach hasn't fared as well in the draw and will begin from the inside of the second row.
To be driven by Michael Smith, the nine-year-old is a $16 shot with TAB Fixed Odds, with Scoob Operator heading the market at $2.15 from gate four.
"He's going to find it tougher from the draw," Moore said. "I still consider him a place chance and he is capable of causing an upset if breaks go his way."
Neds Beach's success was the opening leg of a double for Moore, who was triumphant with Classic Line later on the card.
Driven by Hryhorec's uncle, Ryan, Classic Line accounted for Buzz Bomb and Kuhio Crest in 1:58.2 over 1800 metres.
"I really like this bloke," Moore said. "He's a five-year-old and only had 15 starts, but the potential is there.
"He is the best I have ever trained."
