Wide draw no threat to perfect record

A WIDE draw should do little to prevent late starter Amigos from extending his perfect record.

Following numerous setbacks, Amigos made his debut as an eight-year-old last January and has remained undefeated from five outings.

Thrilled with the trotter's progress, trainer Lisa Pitt is confident Amigos can continue his winning streak in Bendigo tonight despite beginning from barrier seven - the outside of the front row.

"He was going to draw seven or eight and I would rather seven which is an unusual preference in harness racing," Pitt said. "From there he can work forward which suits the way he likes to race.

"He prefers to be forward and has never driven from behind in the field."

With no major plans in mind for the son of Bacardi Lindy, Pitt explained Amigos is a "day-to-day proposition".

"We really like him and think he can develop into a nice country cups trotter, but it is hard to make plans with him," Pitt said. "He has broken down a few times which is why he has never raced until this season.

"I've had him for nearly four years and he has spent a lot of that time in a paddock as he keeps doing tendons.

"He does one, appears to be over that and then does the other.

"He had 12 months off after the last one, so if he didn't come back this time was never going to stand up to racing.

"Hopefully he can stay sound and keep making his way through the grades."
